The city of Brighton & Hove is famed for producing fresh new talent – be it for their footballing squad of Premier League mainstays, or it’s burgeoning alternative music scene. This week The Great Escape festival will be presenting the finest new music from around the world to over 3000 music industry delegates, whilst the Albion secure their place among the top 20 clubs in the land. The Seagulls are staying up, and we’re going down, to Sussex by the sea…

We’re pleased to have our promising new soulful R&B artist, Allana Verde, on the bill for Urban Development’s showcase at Patterns on Friday, alongside Paigey Cakey and Lady Sanity. Signed to Mikill Pane’s independent record label The Only Son, Allana’s lush 90s pop sound has already impressed The FADER, i-D, Complex and BBC 1Xtra’s Trevor Nelson. We asked her to offer up some top tips for the weekend, as part of our TGE 2018 Playlist – tune in below.

Allana Verde’s TGE Tips

Alicia Harley  “I’m really loving her sound!  I think it’s great that we have strong female artists out there, working hard and doing their thing.  Women are killing Afro-beats right now!”
Alex Hepburn  “She reminds me of Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith who are a couple of my favourite artists.  Alex has this really soulful voice, an authentic sound that you can really appreciate.”
Bruno Major  “I think we can all appreciate Bruno Major!  His voice just sets a mood. He’s who you listen to on a rainy day, or as you sit out on your porch with the sun shining. I absolutely love that acoustic sound and I’m in love with his voice.”
